Since I am new to the typical 9-5 life, I’m eager to find out the best ways to balance my time between work and my personal life. I’ve been researching some helpful tips on managing my time and thought I’d share what I’ve found.
It’s important to keep an even balance between work and your personal life so try some of these tips out yourself!
What is work-life balance?
Work-life balance is an internal state of being when an individual achieves an acceptable compromise between their working and personal life.
The result of this should be a happier, calmer and more fulfilled mind and body.
Maintaining a positive work/life balance is the key to allowing yourself to work better and avoid stress.
An important factor to stand by is to always do your best to stay positive about everything, whether it’s big or small. By taking notice of the small things you are thankful for, this positive mindset spills into your work and personal life.
Keep a gratitude journal
Write down something you are grateful for every day. This allows you to be in a positive mindset as well as appreciating the little things.
Small things like this may seem like a waste of time but they can actually have a huge impact on you.
Positive mental attitude (PMA)
Having a positive mental attitude can really benefit you and your mindset. Working out the steps towards achieving a favourable result in your goal/task can give you the confidence to do it well.
Prioritise your mental wellbeing
Pushing yourself over the limit can lead to making the wrong choices and running out of energy quickly. Making sure that you yourself are happy should be a priority over everything.
Here are some tips to help you feel better personally:
Prioritise physical activity
It is common that people will prioritise their work over physical exercise due to being too busy in their work. Physical activity is actually a worthwhile stress-buster and it should fit into your day-to-day plan in order to stay relaxed.
One good idea is taking a meeting with someone while out for a walk. A bit of fresh air and a different environment can make a difference when you go back to work.
Introduce plants to your workspace
It may seem like a small thing, but setting out plants in your workspace is known to boost your mood and performance. Introducing some positivity into your work environment, little or small, can make a huge difference in how you work and feel.

This is why she began to work hard at staying organised – this her way of managing her workload.
Here are a few of Carina’s tips on how you can maintain a work/life balance by staying organised:
- Keep everything in one place. In Carina’s case, this is using the platform Outlook for her emails. This helps her to keep everything together.
- Categorise your emails. Carina says she then knows her day-to-day duties and doesn’t forget anything.
- She was once told to perform each task on her to-do list methodically. This allows her to do as much as she can that day, and start worrying about the rest the next day. This means she can enjoy her personal life without worrying about missing something in work!
