Everyone’s heard the stories of that yellow orb in the sky right? From the stories I’ve heard, it’s supposed to come out from behind the clouds every now and then to bring warmth and shine a bright light on Dublin. Apparently, it’s not so great for keeping people productive though.
Well folks, that orb some people call the sun is here and it’s shining with a vengeance. To be honest, I don’t know what to do with myself as I look out the office window to a piercing blue sky.
Everything feels just a little bit different. I can also tell it’s not just me. It’s seeming to affect everybody in this city.
Here’s how the course of my week went:
Things seemed to be pretty normal for April at the beginning of the week. There was a little bit of chill in the air but sure, that’s normal for spring. I drank a warm cup of tea in the morning and afternoon just as everyone else would.
I recall the first sign of summer weather approaching on Tuesday but I was inside a conference centre all day. Tuesday doesn’t count.
Now Wednesday was when I could tell something serious was happening. I was actually able to walk across the street for lunch without a jacket. I don’t think I’ve ever been able to do that before in my time working here. The best part? Everyone was on the same page that it was forecasted to be 17 degrees on Thursday.
It was 17 degrees when I was out for lunch. Was I in Ireland or was I on holiday in Spain? I wasn’t sure because everyone I saw walking around Terenure village looked like they were ready for the beach. I also managed to walk home after work carrying my jacket in my hands. That was a feat I haven’t been able to achieve in my eight months here.
Now, here I am writing this blog post on a Friday with another warm sunny day on our hands. It’s slightly cloudier than Thursday but hey, that’s fine with me.
The toughest question? How is one supposed to be productive at work when summer seems to have come out of nowhere in April?
Short answer: It’s tough
Long answer: Here are my tips on how the best manage a crisis like this…
Here’s hoping for some sun over the weekend!
