Wrapping Things Up and Looking Back One Year Later – Intern Diary

I’m checking the calendar and it’s hard to believe it’s my last week at the office. It’s been one year since I started working with MICE. By MICE, I’m talking about the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Events industry. (Not to worry, the people I work with are actually amazing human beings).

I’ve come a long way since the first couple weeks when I regularly made MICE jokes and struggled to understand the difference between business conference travel and incentive travel. To be honest, I never even knew the destination industry existed before I started working in it. Nowadays, when I hear someone is travelling for business I instantly want to know the who, what, when, where, and why.

Indeed, a whole new world has opened up.

As for marketing…

Marketing for destinations is loads of fun and comes with a lot of great natural perks. Travelling is definitely one of them. I’ve come to learn it’s not something to be taken for granted.

From the technical side of the marketing world, I’ve gotten a glimpse at the quickly moving landscape. Social media is where it’s at and it evolves fast. It doesn’t make things easy to predict.

Although the platforms will change, I’d say there is one hard rule that’s here to stay. People like personalised content. Nobody is interested in a product that hides behind a brand anymore and unless brands quickly catch on, they will be left behind.
